The adventure/drama movie “Into The Wild“ is written and directed by Sean Penn and is based on Christopher McCandless who spent his life in Alaskan wilderness. The movie stars Emile Hirsh as McCandless with Marcia Gay Harden and William Hurt as his parents and also features Kristen Stewart and Vinc Vaughn.
The movie starts with a short scene which shows a part of the ending. In May 1992 Christopher McCandless arrives at his desired destination Alaska. There he finds an abandoned bus ( the magic bus ) in which he settles and prepares himself for a new life in the wild. His journey begins 2 years earlier in Atlanta, Georgia where Christopher graduated from Emory University. Shortly afterwards he abandons his life of comfort, destroys his identification documents and donates his entire savings of 24,000 $ to a charity organisation to pursue the freedom of life on the road. However, he doesn't tell anybody his intentions not even his family and doesn't try to contact them after he left. After his car gets hit buy a sandstorm he gives his car up, burns his last few dollars and renames himself to Alexander Supertramp. In Northern California Alexander runs into a couple named Jan and Rainey and spends a lot of time with them at the Californian beach. Supertramp then travels to the Colorado River where he ignores the warning of an officer and paddles down the river without a license until he arrives in Mexico. Because his Kayak gets blown away by another sandstorm McCandless makes his way back to the states by foot and by train. While resting in Slab City with the couple he met in Northern California he meets a teenage girl who shows interest in Alexander Supertramp, but he rejects her because she is underage. After his stay in Slab City he meets an old man named Franz who teaches Christopher the craft of leatherwork. This results in McCandless making his own belt showing the adventures of his travel. Several months later Alexander decides to leave and make his way to Alaska, where he found the Magic Bus.
The costume design of “Into The Wild“ was great. The clothes the people wore fitted the lifestyle of the individual persons perfect. For example the simple clothes Christopher McCandless wore in summer represent him being happy with not having much. Also the filming locations were beautiful. The movie showed many wonderful sceneries which made me want to follow the example of Christopher McCandless and travel around the world and live in the beautiful nature.
The movie “Into The Wild“ really made me think about what happiness is, what makes myself happy and how happy you can be without any luxury. “Into The Wild“ is a high qaulity movie it has amazing sceneries in it and the actors performed great. I would give the movie 7 out of 10 points.
I totally agree with your statements in the review. I love the sceneries and I like the way the actors play in the movie as well. I also like your summary, as it shows the content of “Into The Wild” clearly and understandable. Additionally it makes the reader want to watch the movie, when you write your own opinion in the end, showing that the movie made you consider to do the same journey as Christopher McCandless. Though I would have also talked about the philosophical scenes, because I think they are a big part in the movie. Another thing I really like is the soundtrack. The songs fit every single time when they’re played. I also think that the movie is a really good one, as I like all the ideas and thoughts of the main character. I would give “Into The Wild” 8 out of 10 Points. FS words(150)
I also like it how the movie starts and shows a part of the ending, when Alexander Supertramp finds the magic bus. I like DW's summary, because the movie gets much clearer to me and makes it very understandable. I also think the customs in the movie plays an important role. Christopher McCandless wears normal clothes, I realised it especially in the scene when he eats with his parents in the rastaurant. In Alexander Supertramps role he wears only old stuff and things wich are useful in his everyday life. His paretns wears exalted clothes and looked like money is very important for them. They also wanted to buy him a new car, because the thinks the old one is not good enough for him, may Christopher is against it. I didn't get the feeling like DW to travel around the world and follow the example from Christopher McCandless, but the movie made me think of the wonderful nature like the trees or the mountains in Alaska. I was amazed how happy you could be without any luxury. I would give the movie 7 out of 8 points. (187 words) SB
