  1. 3:10 to Yuma is a Western oft the year 2007 staring Christian Bale and Russell Crowe. It takes place in Arizona in august 1884.

    Plot:
The rancher Dan Evans (Christian Bale) is an civil war veteran, who lost part of his leg. He got money problems and almost loses his ranch. On top of that he has a low self-esteem because he thinks his wife and two sons think of him as a loser.
To save his ranch he agrees to support a trip, which brings Ben Wade (Russell Crowe), a famous bandit, who got captured after he and his gang attacked a stagecoach, from Bisbee to a station in Contention where Wade will be transported to yuma prison, but Evan´s oldest son follows them. On the first day Wade kills one of Evan´s allies and points his gun at the rest of the group, when Dan´s son William (Logan Lerman) appears and saves them.
During the trip the group gets more and more decimated. Wade saves them as they come in an Indian ambush. Evans and Wade gain each others respect after Evans rescues him from bounty hunters. After they arrived at their destination Wade´s gang approach and set bounties on their heads,so when the marshal of Contention and two of his allies step out of their cover and get shot instantly.
Evans won´t surrender, so he asks to bring his son back to the ranch and 1000 dollars for his wife.
Wade supports Evans because he admires his attempt to protect his family.
It comes to an epic showdown between those two and Wade`s gang.

    Acting:
Christian Bale and Russell Crowe are the perfect match up for this film. They outline the relationship of Wade and Evans very well because of their ability to fit in the role just perfectly.
Also the first man in Wade´s gang Charlie Prince played by Ben Foster is a very authentic character.
He points out the brutal and crazy character by his mad eyes and weird smile.

    Costumes design:
Every character in 3:10 to Yuma has his own clothing style. Wade for example is dressed like a noble man and the especially the teeth look just like teeth, which weren´t cleaned ever should look like, in the close shot.

I personally like the film. I had no problem with the two hour playtime. The start could be a bit better because it is very slow at the beginning. It shows not only the “cowboy” world of the wild west, but also the Asian workers for the railroad.

3:10 to Yuma is a overall good and authentic film for Western lovers and fans of Christian Bale and Russell Crowe will have their fun with it.
    I would give it a 7 out of 10.

  2. I actually agree with MM's opinion about this film. The beginning is very long and I wouldn't say boring but it takes a long time until the important part of the film starts. The end of the film is very exciting and there's a lot of action.
The film isn't like most of the other western films. It isn't a film about the relationship between Indians and Whites. It schows the relationship between a normal farmer and a criminal at this time which is very rare in this filmsector.
The film 3:10 to Yuma (appeared in 2007) is a remake off 1957. Both films are based on the short-story "three-ten to Yuma" by Elmore Leonard appeared in 1953.
At all 3:10 to Yuma is a very good and eciting film for everybody who likes actionfilms.
The actors Christian Bale and Russel Crowe act there role perfectly. How Christian Bale plays the farmer who wants to get the acceptance of his sons is very amazing you can feel it and see it in his eyes. Russel Crowe embody a cool and serious gangster.
I would give 3:10 to Yuma 8.5 out of 10

  3. The 2007 western film “3:10 to Yuma” is directed by James Mangold and produced by Cathy Conrad.
MM already did a good job in giving a plot summary. All of his statements referring to the film are correct. I totally agree with him and LT that the long beginning is quite boring. However the film gets exciting and captivating in the end.
The film music composed by Marco Beltrami and nominated for the academy award for the best original score, emphasises the western atmosphere. It gives the film the required seriousness and suspense. Especially the main theme called “The 3:10 to Yuma” appearing in several situations makes “3:10 to Yuma” sweeping.
The set design is very authentic. Although the film takes place in Arizona, filming took place in various locations in New Mexico. Nevertheless “3:10 to Yuma” looks absolutely realistic. Also western towns like Contention or Bisbee look fantastic. In general the landscape, e.g. the dessert, fits perfectly to the plot and creates a lot of atmosphere.
In conclusion “3:10 to Yuma” is a great film that is not just made for western films but can be interesting to everybody who likes suspense in their films. If the beginning wasn’t that dull, I would give this film 9 or 10 points. As a result I give this film 7.5 out of 10 points.
